ThatShitDead
Hello to you guys, girls, and non-binary. My name is Jonah Wall. I’m a 26 year old African American artist born and raised in North Carolina. I’ve been drawing since I was a little boy and I've been painting since I was in high school. I am now a college graduate (East Carolina University 2019 BFA Painting and Drawing) with a great deal of professional work under my belt. I’ve had shoes I’ve painted in art shows and sold in vendors and stores. My paintings have been shipped to places all over the world; Hong Kong, Canada, the UK. Still working to make rent. I love drawing. I love idea crafting and I love every minute of the pursuit to live off of what I do best!
ThatShitDead is a name created from the place I was in, mentally, at the time of its inception. It’s a phrase that was popular a long time ago but it works as my name, because it perfectly portrayed my rebellious attitude toward pop culture themes, branding and high fashion ideas. We used to be too poor to afford it, so we tried to make something cooler with what we had.
My goal as an artist is to open people up to new and exciting, sometimes disturbing ideas that we all deal with as human beings. I explore ideas of power, life, consumerism, duality, right and wrong, but I do it from my own perspective. I use symbols that I grew up with (like those based in religion, mythology, comic books and cartoons) to communicate those ideas the best I can. Every piece of art tells a story and I want you to be able to draw your own conclusions from every stroke in my work.
